Winter Season: Junior A Men The winter season offers an opportunity to stay in contact with the sport between the GVYRS season and spring racing season. A very successful coach once said "Gold medals are won in the summer, but earned in the winter" GNRC will take a "complete athlete" approach to winter training. Winter training is an excellent opportunity to strengthen athletes against injury and prepare them for the competition phase of their year in the spring and summer. Junior A and B athletes will be training to compete at Monster Erg, an annual indoor regatta hosted by UVic on February 3rd. Junior C athletes will not race at Monster Erg, instead, their season will be focused on learning the functional movement patterns used in rowing and familiarizing themselves with the sport. GNRC will also be including a number of guest speakers over the course of the winter season, including UVic coaches, National team members, Career athletes with UVic and nutritionists.
