Adult Masters Adult Masters is a competitive-based program for adults aged 19+ who want to train to compete at regattas. An emphasis is placed on physical conditioning, high performance rowing, and racing technique. Previous racing experience is desirable for this program, but it is not essential.
This is the first time SJRC has offered separate recreational and Masters programs for adults.
If there is insufficient registration to support both programs running individually, they may be combined after the season begins. SJRC will communicate with its membership any changes to program expectations or schedules.
Should weather conditions not permit on-water activities, we will have off-water workouts including dryland skills, boat basics, or fitness training, either at the boathouse or in the club’s erg facility. The fee for full season program is $495. The price breakdown is as follows:
  • $450 – SJRC rowing program
  • $20 – Rowing Newfoundland (RNL) membership, the NL provincial rowing organization (mandatory annual membership)
  • $25 – Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) membership, the Canadian national rowing organization (mandatory annual membership)

Adult Recreation - Fall season

This program is for adults aged 18+ and is designed for adult rowers who want to train recreationally and/or get more experience before entering the competitive stream. Athletes in this program may choose to participate in regattas and local racing opportunities but training to compete is not the main goal of the program. This program follows the Long-Term-Athlete-Development (LTAD) pathway of “Active for Life”.  Rowers must have completed Learn to Row or equivalent slide seat rowing experience.

This is the first time SJRC has offered separate recreational and Masters programs for adults.  If there is insufficient registration to support both programs running individually, they may be combined after the Fall season begins.  SJRC will communicate with its membership any changes to program expectations or schedules.

Should weather conditions not permit on-water activities, we will have off-water workouts including dryland skills, boat basics, or fitness training, either at the boathouse or in the club’s erg facility.  A swim test is not required for adult rowing programs; however, upon joining you must confirm that you can swim well and will be comfortable if your boat flips and you find yourself in the water.

The fee for full season program is $220 for new members, and $175 for graduates of the 2022 Adult Learn to Row program. The price breakdown is as follows:

  • $175 – SJRC rowing program
  • $20 – Rowing Newfoundland (RNL) membership, the NL provincial rowing organization (mandatory annual membership for new members)
  • $25 – Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) membership, the Canadian national rowing organization (mandatory annual membership for new members)

Junior Competitive The Junior Competitive program is designed to introduce U17 and U19 athletes to high-performance training and prepare them for events such as the Canada Games, University Rowing, National/International Regattas, and even NextGen programs. Junior Competitive athletes can expect to do sport-specific training and refine their rowing skills while competing at a high level. This program follows “Learn to Compete” and “Train to Compete” long-term athlete development, and athletes will therefore be expected to compete in 2000 m racing, head races, ergometer testing, and race simulations within training (e.g., seat racing).

The fee for the 2022 on-water season is $545, which includes (mandatory) Rowing Canada and Rowing Newfoundland memberships. The price breakdown is as follows:

  • $500 – SJRC rowing program
  • $20 – Rowing Newfoundland (RNL) membership, the NL provincial rowing organization (mandatory annual membership)
  • $25 – Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) membership, the Canadian national rowing organization (mandatory annual membership)

Junior Development - Fall season

This program is for youth aged 12-18 years old. Rowers must have completed Learn to Row or equivalent to join.

The Junior Development program gives junior athletes an opportunity to develop their skills and gain more racing experience before entering the Junior Competitive program. Athletes may choose to stay in this program if they want to continue competing at a club level but are not interested in high-performance training. This program follows the “Train to Train” pathway of athlete development, and athletes will therefore focus on competing in skills events, short sprint races, and head races.

Participants under 17 who have not rowed with SJRC before must complete a swim test in order to participate.

In addition, SJRC has partnered with Max Fitness (_https://yourmax.ca/fitness/) on New Cove Road to offer a Thursday evening strength and fitness session for Jr. Development athletes. Led by Max fitness leaders, Jr. Development athletes can add on 8 weeks of strength training (one session per week).  SJRC has secured the opportunity with Max Fitness and payments can be made to SJRC in order to participate.

The fee is $295 for the Fall Jr. Development rowing season. The price breakdown is as follows:

  • $175 – SJRC rowing program
  • $120 – Max fitness / strength training (8 weeks, one evening per week)

Private boat storage This "program" is the registration option for rowers storing a privately owned shell in the SJRC boathouse who do not wish to row with any of the ongoing programs (normally Adult Rowing).  Owners of private boats will have a key to the boathouse and may use their boats at any time as long as they follow Canadian government boating safety regulations.  Permission of the SJRC Board or designated officers is required to store a private shell in the SJRC boathouse, prior to registration in this program. 495.00 2022-04-01 2023-03-31
